Raise our walls

In the backdrop of cowards once again exposing our nation's security chinks there are two famous Khan's leading a campaign each. While the "Incredible India" campaign wants us all to look inwards and display pride in being an Indian, there is the other campaign asking for more co-operation & collaboration with a rouge neighbor. I want to see India grow in strength and very strongly feel that this is not the time to think about friendship with such neighbors. It is high time we look inwards and introspect much more than we have ever done before. It is time to think what will make each one of us proud of ourselves. Have we thought what our generation's contribution to the country is?

And so this is the time to raise our walls as high as it can be so that we need not worry about these neighbors bothering us. Let us shut out all access and bilateral trade with this neighbor. Of course we will need to take care of the ones dependent on trade around the borders but unless we close ourselves to this neighbor we can never hope to focus on our internal problems.

The union budget is due within a couple of weeks and it is time for Dr. Singh & Mr. Mukherjee to take the cue and allocate more resources to seal every plug around us. At the same time we individuals should look a little more inwards and act with greater self respect. Lets live with pride, let us live in peace.

This thought about our contribution to the country has been lingering in my mind ever since I moved to US from Infosys. I feel that we all are selfish trying to make money and save ourselves while not caring much about our own country. When I go to work in morning, I get this sense of non accomplishment as I keep doing the same work without any motive and goal. I know I am helpless as only thing I care about is my wife and my kids in future. I have become so confined to this kind of living that risk is no longer an option in my life. I hope to inspire my kid to take risk in his life and serve the country if he wants to..

Being in the US is neither a disservice to India nor will it become a full time disability if you want to symbolize who you are and demonstrate the Indian pride in your every action. My thought is that we all need to realize that every step we take symbolizes who we are and if we display that collective change we will surge ahead.

Do you really think raising the wall would solve this problem? I guess we would first need to build our military and be able to secure our waters/borders. Having a nuclear neighbor, conventional war is also not be an option as it was in the case of US with Afghanistan. We can probably solve this problem by increasing our influence in Afghanistan through civilian aid, confronting pak-controlled taliban, assisting US in blowing up safe havens on the af-pak border and providing civilian aid to Pakistan. I know it doesn't sound simple but may be it is time for India to increase its influence in Asian region.

That may be an option too but let us not forget what has happened to US with its outside influence strategy. In my opinion it is better to try and clean the inside first while ensuring that bad foreign elements don't enter. Once the inside is clean we can focus outside also da.

Do you still feel the same?

Aren't the two things complementary and can go hands in hands?

India is known for its adaptability. Mahatma Gandhi once said, "I don't want to stay in a house which doesn't have a window. Rather I would prefer the ideas to flow from every where through these windows".
Swami Vivekananda got recognition by establishing a positive identity of Indian culture in foreign.
Today Sanskrit is taught all over the world. US and Europe want more Sanskrit teachers because they want to read and understand Geeta and Vedas first hand rather the translated versions.

We Indians have suffered under foreign rule for such a long time that we feel pride in copying west. By establishing respect for India is actually re-establishing the respect for Indian culture in youth. Yoga is more popular outside India. The biggest online Yoga site and magazine is US based.

If our basic concepts are strong and true, then we should not worry about adopting influential policy.(as long as they are contributing constructively)

Well Smita, I'm all for collaboration and cross learnig. Indian culture and Hinduism is all about freedom and being eclectic about our choices. How else can we have the gym loving guy have hanuman as god and the artistic girl praying to saraswati...but as far as this particular rogue neighbor goes i feel raising our walls is the right thing to do. Let them prove over time that they have mend their ways. We can then see whether to open up a bit if at all.
